The FIESTA DE LA TRADICION in San Antonio de Areco is the oldest Gaucho (criollo) celebration in Argentina (since 1939). The visitors of La Sofía and San Antonio de Areco have the opportunity to attend the various events that revive Criollo customs. Every year, at the beginning of November, the Dia de la Tradicion is celebrated more intensely than anywhere else. The breaking-in of horses, horse riding contests, expositions, dancing, and the traditional parade of the Gauchos on horseback, who come from San Antonio de Areco and from all over Argentina, are some must-see attractions.
During the festival of the Dia de la Tradicion the Copa de la Tradicion is staged at La Sofía. This polo tournament of 8-10 goals is played on the polo fields of La Sofía and other polo clubs in the region.
Attending a game of the Triple Corona (the most important polo tournaments in the world), played between September and December, is another great option for a unique experience.
While there are numerous polo tournaments around the world, Argentine tournaments are unparalleled in terms of handicap.
The Triple Corona consists of the three most important tournaments in Argentina:
- The Campeonato Argentino Abierto de Polo also known as Abierto de Palermo from the middle of November to the beginning of December
- The Campeonato Abierto de Hurlingham in September/ beginning of October.
- The Campeonato Abierto de Tortugas Country Club in October/ November.
